At this time I would like to introduce the members of the Chancellor’s Cabinet.

It is a tradition here at IU South Bend that we start this meeting with a performance from the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts. For the introduction of this year’s featured performer please welcome Dean of the Raclin School Marvin Curtis.

I will be forming a transition team made up of campus and community stakeholders to provide me with additional feedback on initial plans and priorities.

I have also invited a consultant, Dr. John Welty, a very experienced retired university president to conduct a transition and organizational review. He visited campus in July and met with a variety of people. He will return again in September to meet with more stakeholders. He will provide a report to me as well as to the Transition Team and campus leaders to contribute to the development of organizational approaches we might consider in order to move the campus forward.

I want to spend the next 10 minutes or so providing an update on important areas of the campus as well as highlight some new activities and bicentennial events you can expect to see on campus.

In addition, the Cabinet has identified the following operating principles that we will use as we move ahead with these priorities this year:

• Growth mindset, which is an orientation towards positive action and development based in the belief that everyone can learn and achieve their dreams.

DR. DAVID YEAGER SLIDE

Great speaker who will help us learn more about how we can adopt a growth mindset for ourselves as a campus, but more importantly for our students.

Dr. David Yeager is an associate professor of developmental psychology at the University of Texas at Austin and a member of the Mindset Scholars Network. His presentation is called Grit and Growth Mindset: Why Some Environments Motivate People to be Excellent.

He will be speaking on November 7 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Auditorium. I encourage everyone to attend. There is no cost. There will also be workshops on the following day. Information on how to get tickets will be forthcoming.

• Customer/student service; and taking advantage of a fresh view and new opportunities. In 2018, the campus produced a service statement, which is shown on this slide. These are the principles we as a Cabinet are committed to and I would ask everyone at the university to do the same as we work together in the coming years.

COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING SLIDE

Communications and marketing are an important part of enrollment and I want to mention a change that will be occurring in that area. Chief of Staff for the Office of the Chancellor and director of the Office of Communications and Marketing Ken Baierl will be retiring at the end of the fall semester.

Ken has served as chief of staff for the past five years and as marketing director for 15 years. An updated job description has been posted and we are in the process of forming a search committee. The plan is to have someone onboard in time for Ken to share his wisdom and help with the transition. We will keep you posted on the process.

FACILTIES UPDATE SLIDES / WITH BUILDINGS

• The physical environment of the campus is a priority
