August 23, 2021
Dear Colleagues,
Happy first day of the 2021-2022 academic year! Last week was full of fun events bookended by our Welcome Back Address on Monday to Convocation and our Campus Cookout on Friday. For anyone who missed last week’s Welcome Back Address, my presentation can be found .
I want to extend a special thanks to all who have been working so hard over the last several weeks to prepare for our Titans Together: Return of the Titans. While it’s an exciting time of year, it’s also the busiest time of the year for many. Thank you for making students a top priority and for supporting each other in meeting our mission as we get this new year started.
Below are some additional campus updates I want to share with you.

Ask Me Stations
In addition to welcoming our first-year students to campus for the first time, many of our second-year students are also new to campus this year. Helping students find their way during this first week is more important than ever. I want to extend my appreciation to members of the IU South Bend Staff Council who are organizing “Ask Me” stations again this year to help students navigate the campus and its resources. The “Ask Me” stations will be open August 23-26 from 8:15am-5:45pm. Please consider signing up for a 30-minute shift to help welcome our new students to campus. You can sign up for a “Ask Me” shift .
Leadership Update
Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Carolyn Kasdorf has accepted another position outside of Indiana. Her last day at IU South Bend will be August 31. I would like to thank Carolyn for her service to IU South Bend this past year, during an unprecedented time, and wish her all the best in her next endeavor. More details on an Interim Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance will be forthcoming.
I look forward to seeing you at our first Coffee with the Chancellor on Thursday, September 23, which will be held in person from 3:00pm – 4:30pm in the University Grill, with a Zoom-in option. Look for more details in the Daily Titan in the coming weeks. Until then, I hope you have a great start to the fall semester.
