I start this message with important reminders about the Coronavirus situation. Please check the IU website frequently for updates and news - - as well as the Daily Titan and your email inbox for other updates from IU and the campus. Thank you all for your patience, understanding and cooperation with the measures we are implementing to ensure the health and safety of our community. I know these are challenging times, but we will get through them together.
I have several personnel updates to provide:
• Phil Iapalucci is stepping down in his role as Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance effective immediately and taking personal time through the end of April. Philemon Yebei, Assistant Vice President for Administration in the Office of the Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs, will be assisting the campus immediately until an external interim VC can be identified, which we hope to have in place as soon as possible. A search for a new VC will begin in late summer/early fall.
• Elizabeth Paice will start as Chief of Staff in the Chancellor’s Office on April 13th. She will be joining us from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Additional information about Elizabeth has also been sent out in the Daily Titan. She may be on campus for selected engagements prior to April 13th as well. Please join me in welcoming Elizabeth to our community!
• The search for a permanent EVCAA is progressing, and we are doing our best under the circumstances to keep the search on track. Information about the search will be sent out in the Daily Titan and can also be found .
• Interim EVC Chen is in the process of selecting an interim dean for the Raclin School of the Arts and an interim dean for the Leighton School of Business and Economics to begin July 1, 2020. Searches for both of the permanent dean positions will be conducted under the leadership of the new EVCAA.
As you know, we announced the launch of a campus strategic planning process. While the Campus Directions Committee (CDC) will continue to meet, we have postponed any campus wide events or visits from our consultant for now. Information about our planning process will be sent out in additional messages as the situation evolves. We are developing a website for the process, that has been slowed because of our technology and communications staff are focused on other priorities.
We are participating in the Higher Education Research Institute’s Faculty Survey as a companion to the IU MyVoice staff survey. Tenure track and tenured faculty as well as all ranks of lecturers and part-time instructors should have already received an email with a link to fill out the survey. Thanks for taking the time to respond. We will use the information to identify aspects of faculty life that we can celebrate as well as those we need to develop plans to improve.
Have a safe and healthy spring break.
